Oslo-listed owner Cadeler has clinched more offshore wind farm work in a deal with vessel operator and contractor Van Oord.

The BW Group and Swire-backed company said its 13,200-dwt wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV) Wind Osprey (built 2012) will work on the Hollandse Kust Noord project, which consists of 69 11MW turbines.

This is scheduled for completion in 2023, when the farm will generate at least 3.3 TWh per year, equal to 2.8% of the Dutch electricity demand.

The project is being developed by CrossWind, a joint venture between Shell and Eneco.

The contract is Cadeler's second in a week, after Orsted booked Wind Osprey for its Borkum Riffgrund 1 and Borkum Riffgrund 2 farms in 2024 and 2025.

Long-term partners

Cadeler chief executive Mikkel Gleerup said: "The fact that Van Oord has once again chosen Cadeler as a partner shows a high level of trust in our abilities and recognises the deep competences gathered from almost a decade of similar complicated projects, many of them off the coast of the Netherlands."

Wind Osprey is scheduled to replace its main crane following the completion of the Van Oord work in readiness for the Orsted job.

In 2020, Cadeler announced another contract with Van Oord set to be executed in 2022 and 2023 off the Dutch coast, at the Hollandse Kust Zuid wind farm.

This consists of 140 of the same 11MW Siemens-Gamesa turbines that are also due to be installed at Hollandse Kust Noord.

Cadeler, which carried out a $100m initial public offering in November 2020, has two operational WTIVs and has two more WTIVs on order at Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry in China at a cost of $651m.
