Christen Sveaas-backed Sea1 Offshore has ordered two new offshore energy support vessels at Cosco Shipping (Qidong) Offshore Co.
The 120-metre-long ships will be based on the ST-245 design and will have capabilities to serve oil and gas and renewables markets, Sea1 said in a statement.
Sea1 did not disclose the price of the vessels, which are scheduled for delivery in the first and second quarters of 2027.
Sea1 and Cosco Shipping are also in talks over further newbuilding orders, the statement said.
The two vessels will be equipped with some of the most fuel-efficient solutions in the market, Sea1 said.
Generators, battery packages and thruster configuration will include the latest technology.
The engines will be methanol-ready and the generators can run on 100% biofuel.
The vessels will be built to meet the requirements for operations worldwide.
Last week, Sea 1 reported a $27.6m profit for the third quarter, up from $12.3m for the same period last year.
“The North Sea spot market was volatile and below expectations for utilisation based on less drilling activity and fewer installation campaigns than expected, which penalises anchor-handling tug supply vessels and platform supply vessels that rely on the spot market,” it said then.
Sea1’s fleet comprises 26 vessels, including large anchor-handling tug supply vessels, platform supply units, multipurpose field vessels and remotely operated vehicles, offshore subsea construction units and well-intervention vessels.
