Greek tycoon Evangelos Marinakis is moving further into offshore shipping with more newbuildings in China.
TradeWinds reported in June that his new company Capital Offshore Management Corp had put pen to paper on a deal for up to eight platform supply vessels at Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding — the biggest such order in a decade.
Now Norway’s Breeze Ship Design says it has been chosen to design two multipurpose supply vessels (MPSVs) for the company at the same shipyard.
Breeze chief commercial officer Tommy Hivand told TradeWinds these ships are in addition to the original PSV order, which is said to have been developed by MMC Ship Design & Marine Consulting.
He said the MPSVs will be 4,700 dwt. The price is not known.
The Z 4423 design is an 88-metre unit with battery hybrid propulsion, 1,000 square metres of work deck and accommodation for 60 people.
The ships will have a moonpool, subsea crane and a helideck.
“We are very happy to see that our Z 4423 MPSV design is chosen again,” Hivand added.
“In response to the customer’s demand for a modern, high-quality and fuel-efficient MPSV, Breeze Ship Design has developed a highly energy and environmentally efficient vessel that provides a flexible operational solution.”
Clarksons lists the PSVs as 5,500 dwt, with delivery dates in 2026. They are diesel-electric.
Order topping $320m?
Brokers have estimated a new PSV as costing between $40m and $50m. The Marinakis deal is possibly towards the lower end of that range due to the size of the order.
Capital Offshore had quietly built up a fleet of six PSVs from Norway’s Standard Supply before placing its newbuilding order.
Borealis Maritime’s Aurora Offshore has taken over the management of three of these so far.
