Havila Shipping has cold-stacked three offshore support vessels, making dozens of seafarers redundant.
The Oslo-listed company said the 3,250-dwt Havila Fortune (built 2008), the 4,000-dwt Havila Borg (built 2009) and the 16,300-bhp Havila Mercury (built 2007) will be laid up.
This move, which will affect around 70 crew through layoffs and resignations, comes as a consequence of market conditions, the company explained.
Vessel tracking websites show the three vessels at anchor off Aberdeen and Norway.
Havila’s decision to idle ships comes hot on the heels of its latest attempt to see through a $586m restructuring package.
Otherwise the company has said it would have to file for bankruptcy in cooperation with secured lenders and others.
More offshore owners have been laying up their ships lately, with Olympic Shipping and Island Offshore cold-stacking three anchor-handlers two weeks ago.
