Maersk Supply Service has sold two more ships under its disposal scheme that will see the company part ways with 20 vessels.

The Danish owner has confirmed the sale of the 18,273-bhp Maersk Supplier and Maersk Shipper (both built 1999).

Maersk Supply said: “The divestment is part of Maersk Supply Service’s announced plans to reduce the fleet by up to 20 vessels over a period of 18 months.

“The divestment is a response to vessels in lay-up, limited trading opportunities and the global oversupply of offshore supply vessels in the industry.

Both vessels sold last week are anchor-handlers that joined Maersk Supply’s fleet in the late 90s and will head for recycling in China.

The Maersk Shipper was pulled out of the market last year.

Maersk Supply has sold 10 ships in 2016, bringing it halfway through its disposal scheme. Its fleet currently consists of 47 ships.

As TradeWinds reported earlier today, the company has secured a 12-month contract for a PSV from sister company Maersk Oil.
