Ostensjo Rederi is heading to Spain for an offshore newbuilding.
The vessel, set to be delivered in the second half of 2027 from Astilleros Gondan, is being described as an ocean energy support vessel (OESV).
The Norwegian shipowner said it can perform inspection, maintenance and repair work, plus construction, floatel services and cable laying with the various capabilities “ensuring efficiency and operational flexibility”.
A price was not disclosed.
“We are excited to start on this shipbuilding journey with the ordering of a new vessel type,” said Ostensjo Rederi chief executive Kristian Helland Vea.
“The ordering aligns with our ongoing efforts to modernise our fleet, our commitment to new technology and our dedication to decarbonisation.”
According to Clarksons, the OESV deal is the latest between Ostensjo Rederi and Astilleros Gondan.
The owner already has 11 vessels from the northwest Spain yard in its fleet, three of them platform supply vessels and the remainder tugs.
In total, the company lists 29 ships in its fleet.
It boasts 16 offshore vessels, including six exclusively for offshore wind work.
The remaining 13 are tugs of various sizes.
As it stands, Ostensjo Rederi is also responsible for the management of Edda Wind’s vessels, having been in the role since it helped set up the Oslo-listed company in 2015.
That agreement is set to expire at the start of 2025, with Wilhelmsen group, John Fredriksen and Idan Ofer taking controlling stakes in the company last year.
