The sale completed today gives a new lease of life to the 35 years old Baltic ro-ro.
SweOffshore was previously the charterer of the 18,345-gt Regina Baltica (built 1980) and has invested in converting and upgrading the vessel to meet the needs of the offshore market.
The Regina Baltica built in Finland by Wartsila began life as the Viking Song in the Sally Line fleet but has had a varied career trading for Fred Olsen, Estline and Trasmediterranea as well as spells in the Faroe Islands and helping repatriate Red Army troops from East Germany.
As a cruise ferry the Regina Baltica could carry 2 000 passengers, 540 cars and freight trailers but as part of a refit that included building a helideck and turning the ro-ro ramp into a boat dock the accommodation has been cut to 300 workers in single cabins.
The vessel is currently employed at Dong Energy's offshore wind park, Borkum Riffgrund, off Germany.
Gothenburg based SweOffshore is privately owned but is an associated company of Eriksson Capital, which has diversified Nordic investment portfolio.
The sale of the Regina Baltica was announced by Tallink in February but no details of the buyer or sale price were disclosed at the time.
The purchase price remains under wraps, but is likely to be disclosed in due course as Tallink is a quoted company.
