Ezion Holdings' Teras Offshore has clinched an $83.4m deal to carry and install wind turbines in Taiwan.

The Singapore group has scooped the contract from Foxwell Energy Corp, part of renewables group Shinfox Corp, led by chairman Gou Tai-Chiang.

Teras will transport and install 31 turbines of 9.5MW for phase two of state-run Taipower's $2.11bn wind farm.

The work will start in September 2024.

Ezion has one heavy deck-cargo ship among its fleet of six offshore vessels, suggesting it will have to order newbuildings or charter-in scarce wind turbine installation vessels (WTIVs) for the job.

Teras also has to set up a branch office in Taiwan within 90 days of the contract entering into force.

Taiwan has been a major source of wind work for offshore vessel companies this year.

Renewables industry association RenewableUK puts Taiwan at number five in a list of nations with wind farm projects in the pipeline, with a 65% increase from 9.2GW to 15.2GW this year.

In October, Dubai's P&O Maritime announced $30m of contracts in Taiwan's offshore wind sector.

The deals will tie up three of its ships in the sector from early 2021, with charterers including Subsea 7, Van Oord and Boskalis.

And in September, Norway's Solstad Offshore scooped its second wind farm charter in Taiwan within a month.

The Oslo-listed offshore vessel owner said Danish energy giant Orsted has signed up the 107-loa construction support vessel (CSV) Normand Jarl (built 2013) to work on its Greater Changhua 1 & 2a offshore wind projects.

The firm period of hire is 15 months, with options to extend for five extra monthly terms.
