Australia’s Incat Tasmania has grabbed a high-speed ro-pax newbuilding order from Trinidad and Tobago.
The vessel will have capacity for 1000 persons, including 224 VIP seats, and be able to carry 239 cars or a combination of trucks and cars.
The ferry will be employed on the Trinidad and Tobago inter-island seabridge, which has previously been served by two Incat vessels, the T&T Express and T&T Spirit.
Incat said it will soon commence construction of the Trinidad ferry at its shipyard in Hobart Tasmania, with delivery due by 2020.
“Incat is pleased that the Trinidad and Tobago government has made the decision to invest further in their vital seabridge connection with the purchase a newbuild vessel,” said Incat chairman Robert Clifford.
In early December 2018 Trinidad and Tobago put pen to paper on a newbuilding contract with Austal for a 94 metre high-speed ro-pax ferry.
It was been contracted by government-owned National Infrastructure Development Company (NIDCO) at a cost of AUD 97.7m ($71.8m).
The AutoExpress-design catamaran is due to be delivered in mid-2020 and will also serve on the seabridge between the islands of Trinidad and Tobago.
