Masked robbers accosted a crew member after boarding an LNG carrier in Peru's Callao anchorage in an attempted pre-dawn raid last week.
According to maritime security consultancy Gray Page, as many as five individuals boarded the ship on 15 May by climbing the ship's hawse pipe.
They then seized the seafarer, who had been making rounds, pushing him and stealing his radio before fleeing as the alarm sounded.
Gray Page said the incident was the fourth boarding at the anchorage in the last three months, all at night.
In a similar 18 April incident, five men boarded a bulker, beat a crew member making rounds and stole personal belongings.
The firm recommends posting strict watches when anchored at Callao, turn on deck and cargo lights at night and hoist pilot and accommodation ladders when not in use.
