All 31 seafarers have been rescued safely from a burning Egyptian ro-ro off Saudi Arabia.

The incident involving the 756-lane-metre Al Fayrouz (built 1980) took place 60 nautical miles west of Fursan island on Monday, the Almowaten website said.

The report said the vessel had been "completely burned".

French rescue authorities received a distress signal from the cargoship and coordinated the evacuation with the Saudi navy.

Of the crew, 27 are from Egypt, two from India and two from Sudan.

The ship is listed as owned by Pan Suez Marine of Egypt, which could not be contacted.

AIS data shows the vessel stopped on 8 April.
