A containership has collided with a bunker tanker and a bulker after going off course in Germany.
Local police said in a statement that the incident involving the 1,578-teu boxship Calisto (built 2005), operated by Peter Dohle Schiffahrts, happened on Sunday on the Elbe near Brunsbuttel.
The 39,000-dwt bulker Interlink Affinity (built 2016), managed by BSM, was being refuelled by BMT Bunker and Mineraloeltrans' 1,300-dwt bunker tanker Claudia (built 2003) at the time.
Police said the Calisto was coming from Hamburg to anchor in rising water. The ship went off course in "unclear circumstances" and hit the bow of Claudia.
"Material damage also occurred to the adjacent cargoship," the statement said. "The lines between the tanker and the cargoship broke and the bunker hoses ripped.
"Despite immediate shutdown of the pumping activities, about 200 litres of marine diesel and small amounts of heavy oil flowed into the Elbe. Significant damage to the tanker occurred."
No water ingress or injuries were reported and all three ships remained seaworthy.
An investigation into the cause of the accident was continuing.
The Calisto has since berthed in Gdansk, Poland, and Peter Dohle has been contacted for comment.
