An Indonesia ferry has run aground in the Singapore Strait.

Local media said passengers remained on board the 14,700–gt Kelud (built 1998) as it awaited refloating on Wednesday.

The vessel was approaching Sekupang in Batam with 714 people.

It got stuck on a sandbar in strong winds, developing a list.

AIS data showed it underway 17 hours ago.

The vessel is operated by Indonesia's Pelni.
