The New York Police Department (NYPD) has been involved in the medevac of an injured crewman just off New York.

It’s air sea rescue division was called on to use its helicopter to airlift the crewman from d’Amico’s 46,975-dwt MR tanker High Courage (built 2005).

NYPD said a medic was deployed from the helicopter to stabilize the man before he could be flown to a nearby hospital.

“On September 22, an electrician working on-board the d’Amico operated tanker High Courage lost consciousness while the vessel was transiting Brooklyn waters,” the Italian shipowner told TradeWinds.

“As a prudent measure, the master requested medivac which was swiftly acted on by the 100th Precinct Aviation Unit.

“The crewman was taken to the Staten Island University Hospital and later released having suffered from low blood sugar.

“d’Amico wishes to thank the NYPD and the Aviation Unit for their timely and professional response.”

The dramatic rescue took place about 16 miles off Breezy Point, which is a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Queens.
