The grounding of an Oldendorff Carriers bulker is impacting navigation in a key waterway for Argentina's grain exports.
The 61,000-dwt Johann Oldendorff (built 2014) suffered the grounding today near the Parana River port of San Nicolas, according to shipping agency Nabsa.
The incident is partially obstructing some navigation in the Parana's main shipping channel, and navigation is restricted in a secondary channel, according to the Buenos Aires company.
Oldendorff chief operating officer Peter Bagh tells TradeWinds that the ship is in soft mud and has suffered no damage. The crew is uninjured, and there is no pollution.
"We are in the process of arranging tug assistance with a local salvage company and the tugs should be on their way to the vessel within the next few hours," he said.
Satellite tracking data from VesselsValue show that the ship remains aground.
The Johann Oldendorff is part of the owned fleet of Oldendorff Carriers, the German operator. The German-flag ship is classed by ClassNK and insured by the UK P&I Club.
