The patched-up cruiseship Viking Sky is due to leave Norway on Wednesday following its headline-making encounter with a storm a week and a half ago.

The 48,000-gt Viking Ocean Cruises vessel (built 2017) will head to Copenhagen in Denmark from Kristiansund, according to the Norwegian Maritime Directorate.

Directorate personnel are on board together with representatives of class society Lloyd's Register to check on improvements that have now been implemented,

AIS data shows it still moored in Kristiansund on Wednesday morning.

"The dialogue with class companies and shipping companies has been good through this demanding process, and after the day's review aboard the ship, we see no reason why the class company cannot approve the ship for further sailing," said directorate operational director Alf Tore Sorheim.

The idea is for the ship to resume normal cruises from Denmark.

Passengers were evacuated from the vessel off Hustadvika on 23 March after it lost power in a storm.

It suffered damage to some windows and a lifeboat.

Everything has now been put right, even though some repairs have been temporary due to the long delivery times for replacement windows, the directorate said.
