Philippine authorities say they have rescued the last crew members taken hostage from a Vietnamese bulker in February.

The three men, plus one body, were reportedly recovered during a military operation in Kang Tipayan Island, Languyan, Tawi-tawi.

Six crew, all Vietnamese, were initially taken hostage when the 4,700-dwt Giang Hai (built 2010) was hijacked off Borneo on 19 February 2017.

The incident took place about 35 nm west of Doc Can Island in Sulu, Philippines by an unknown number of armed men.

One crew was killed while underway, and on 7 July 2017, Philippine troops recovered the cadaver of another crew.
