Robbers have targeted a Scorpio Bulkers ultramax while the ship was anchored off Cam Pha Inner Anchorage, Vietnam.
The incident aboard the Marshal Islands-flagged 61,258-dwt SBI Echo (built 2015) took place in position 20° 54.3' N, 107° 16.3' E.
It occurred in late September, but details have only just been disclosed by the Singapore-based Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP) Information Sharing Centre.
“While at anchor, the duty crew during his routine round discovered that the padlock to the paint store was broken. Ship stores and crew’s personal belongings had been stolen,” ReCAAP said in its latest anti-piracy report.
“The perpetrators could have had boarded the ship unnoticed during the ship’s cargo operations. The incident was reported to the ship agent who made a report to the port authority.”
Cam Pha, which is located in north Vietnam, is the country’s main coal export facility. It handled over 25mt of coal last year.
