DNV GL Oil & Gas chief Elisabeth Heggelund Torstad is set to lead the classification society’s newly formed Digital Solutions division.
Torstad will head a team of 1,000 “digital experts” in what DNV GL says is an acceleration of its digital efforts.
Remi Eriksen, chief executive of DNV GL, said in a statement: “Data is the raw material of the 21st century.
“It is the foundation and driver of the digital transformation and forms the basis of value creation.
“To serve our customers in a better way and to stimulate innovation, we are consolidating our digital assets and resources in our new Digital Solutions organization.”
The newly created arm will absorb the existing DNV GL – Software, which is a well-known provider to third parties.
Eriksen says Torstad brings the cross-industry knowledge and drive for collaboration across the business that the new organization needs.
A spokesperson for DNV GL says around 100 employees in Maritime and Offshore are dedicated digital experts working on issues such as cyber security, hardware-in-the-loop testing, or fleet performance.
The company has around 13,000 staff in total, with 30% working in maritime.
