Nicolas Tsavliris has taken the helm at the school where he graduated.
The Tsavliris Salvage Group principal has been elected chairman of Athens College, one of Greece’s most prestigious schools.
Tsavliris graduated from the college in 1966.
Athens College is the alma mater of several Greek shipowners, including George Economou and Petros Pappas.
Founded in 1925 by local Greeks with American help, the school has about 5,000 students and 1,000 staff over two campuses, one in Athens and one outside.
It is run by the Hellenic-American Educational Foundation, a non-profit organisation with an annual turnover of about $100m.
Tsavliris was also part of the school’s previous administration, serving as vice president and treasurer.
