A modern Greek-owned supramax bulker fell foul of port state control (PSC) inspectors in the UK last month, TradeWinds has learnt.

Inspectors found 21 deficiencies aboard the 56,838-dwt Christos Theo (built 2010) during an inspection in the port of Southampton on 23 April 2019.

These included a defective emergency generator which prompted the detention of the ship. It was later released on 29 April, according to the UK’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA).

The Christos Theo was one of two foreign flagged vessels detained in a UK port last month. The other ship was the general cargo vessel Tango Sol (built 1997).

A further four vessels remained under detention from previous months – Murmansk Shipping’s 23,170-dwt bulker Kuzma Minin (built 1980), the research/survey vessel Poseidon (built 1975), the bunker vessel Cien PorCiento (built 1913) and the 2,800-dwt Tecoil Polaris (built 1990).
