The fire-damaged Yantian Express is likely to depart from Freeport in the Bahamas at the end of April 2019, or early May.
The 7,150-teu containership (built 2002) began reloading containers unloaded at Freeport over the weekend, Ocean Network Express (ONE) said in an update to clients.
However, TradeWinds understands that general average and salvage security has still not been posted for some of these containers.
“The salvage company have now declared that the granted period of 21 days for the provision of salvage security has long expired,” ONE said.
“We understand that the salvage company are working on getting the required certification from the Lloyd‘s Arbitration to enable them to sell the cargo to satisfy their security interest, should security not be provided imminently.”
However, the departure date for the Yantian Express will ultimately depend on the salvage company and the provision of salvage security, ONE said.
“We would encourage all cargo interests to provide the requested General Average and Salvage security in order to allow the containers to be delivered,” it added.
In terms of the ships next port of call, ONE said it is not finally determined as yet in light of dependency on technical approval of vessel class.
“We shall keep you closely informed on the decision for such port selection, once agreement has been reached, in conjunction with relevant port authorities,” it said.
The Yantian Express suffered a blaze on 3 January off Canada, but was eventually able to berth in Freeport on 4 February.
A total of 202 containers were declared a total loss, according to general average and salvage adjusters Richards Hogg Lindley.
It also identified an additional 460 containers that were stored in the affected area that required inspection.
