Clarksons Offshore & Renewables has appointed Steve Shin Ryoo as broker and country manager in South Korea.
“With a career spanning over a decade in the marine salvage, dredging and offshore wind sectors, Steve is set to bring invaluable expertise to the team,” Clarksons said in a statement.
Ryoo was previously managing director at KR Dredging in Busan, where he led government and international dredging projects in Singapore and Thailand.
“I am looking forward to developing a client base in Korea with the local network I have built up during the last 10 years of my career.
“I am also very grateful to be able to represent Clarksons Offshore & Renewables team in South Korea, introducing and connecting Clarksons with local shipowners and other interested parties, particularly for the offshore wind industry,” Ryoo said.
Ryoo began his career at Korea Salvage in 2007.
He managed the company’s towage and salvage team and projects, including vessel chartering, procurement of salvage equipment and yard management.
He holds a bachelor of arts in journalism and sociology from the University of Minnesota and a juris doctor degree from Ave Maria School of Law in Florida.
In his new role within the Offshore division at Clarksons, Ryoo will concentrate on vessel chartering, sale and purchase, as well as providing offshore wind advisory and consultancy services, alongside Clarksons’ global team.
“Taking Steve on board is a further commitment based on our understanding of the value that is added to both domestic partners seeking to diversify into the exciting world of offshore wind, and international clients who are looking to navigate the complexities of operating in unfamiliar regions,” Clarksons’ Neil Buchan, head of APAC renewables and divisional director, said.
Buchan said: “2024 has been a particularly successful year for the team so far, with the team managing newbuilding and secondhand vessel transactions, undertaking multiple consultancy scopes as well as facilitating both short and long-term vessel charters for key clients in the region.”
Clarksons said Ryoo’s appointment “will strengthen Clarksons’ already leading position in South Korea, where it has been present since October 2017, enabling the group to continue delivering value to clients and expand its footprint in South Korea’s growing offshore wind industry”.
