Germany’s Hammonia Reederei is expanding its multipurpose/heavylift fleet with a new order in China.
Brokers report the company has signed a deal for four firm 13,500-dwt MPPs at the Huangpu Wenchong shipyard for an undisclosed price.
There are four optional vessels attached to the contract.
Delivery is set for 2027 and 2028.
The owner has been contacted for comment.
Hammonia is currently listed with a fleet of 10 ships, valued at $813m by VesselsValue.
There are already four MPP/heavylift vessels in operation, plus two MR tankers and four container ships.
The company has two other MPPs of 8,600 dwt on order at Guangzhou Wenchong in China for delivery this year.
Hammonia has also been linked to an order for two 175,000-cbm LNG carriers at China’s Yangzijiang Shipbuilding.
Speculative deal?
The two vessels are due for delivery in December 2025 and April 2026, respectively.
The first ship is expected to undergo sea trials from Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding Co’s yard in Taixing, Taizhou, next year.
The two newbuildings were the yard’s first LNG vessels and were secured in October 2022.
Hammonia is listed as the owner by shipping databases such as Clarksons and VesselsValue, but TradeWinds has reported that the yard is now building the ships speculatively, according to shipbuilding sources.
The German owner has not responded to a request for comment on this.
