Croatia's Viktor Lenac shipyard is doing its bit in the battle against coronavirus.
The Palumbo Group shiprepairer has donated 150 protective suits and 40 masks to sanitary inspectors at Rupa and Pasjak border crossings, as well as to ambulance staff in Primorje-Gorski Kotar county, the county civil protection authority said.
The authority thanked the director of the shipyard in Kostrena, Sandra Uzelac, for the kit, the Hina news agency said.
The country launched the production of 50,000 transparent masks last week.
Last week, TradeWinds revealed how a shipyard where Pangaea Logistics Solutions had ordered four ice-class panamax bulker newbuildings offered to send anti-coronavirus safety equipment.
It was just months after staff at Guangzhou Shipyard International had looked to the company for help in delaying the first ship, due to the outbreak.
Pangaea's Ed Coll said: "They said, ‘Can you help us? Can you give us masks? Can you do all these things for us?’ And we did, we sent them about $15,000-worth of equipment to help them, through our office in Greece."
With China seemingly over the worst of the outbreak and people returning to work, including the shipyards, his more recent conversation with the yard was different, Coll told TradeWinds in an interview.
“Now, they’re reciprocating — they said, ‘We’ll send stuff to you, how can we help you?’” Coll said.
