Foresight Group held its 25th annual winter barbecue party in mid-January with nearly 500 guests enjoying the feast.

As one of the most popular events in the UK shipping community's calendar, the party in south-west London generally offers a variety of Indian and Western cuisines with vegetarian options — and this year was no exception.

Foresight founder Ravi Mehrotra and his family, along with many Foresight officials, welcomed IMO secretary general Kitack Lim and Shell vice president of shipping and maritime Grahaeme Henderson.

Several senior maritime officials from Panama attended as well as UK member of parliament Alok Sharma and European member of parliament Geoffrey Van Orden.

Laying the groundwork

While Foresight has focused on the offshore and hospitality sectors for much of the past decade, Mehrotra, 77, has vowed to invest big in shipping again.

For the next couple of years, Foresight is aiming to build a fleet of 10 VLCCs and two LNG carriers to meet rising Indian energy demand.

It plans to invest $500m across shipping, port, offshore drilling and LNG sectors in India, where the industry veteran was born.
