Teekay Tankers is set to welcome a new board member to replace one joining the company's general partner.

Former Seaspan finance chief Sai Chu will join the board of the New York-traded tanker owner, replacing Richard Patterson who joins the board of Teekay GP.

"Sai brings a wealth of financial and shipping expertise to Teekay Tankers," board chairman Arthur Bensler said. "We are very pleased that he has agreed to join our Board, and we look forward to his contribution as we continue to execute on our strategy in the years to come."

Bensler said he looks forward to continuing to work with Patterson on the Teekay GP board.

Chu worked at Seaspan from 2004 to 2015, and served as chief financial officer from 2007 until his departure. At Teekay Tankers, he will be an independent director, chair the audit committee and sit on the conflicts and governance committees.

In March, Teekay Tankers and Teekay Corp shrank their boards from nine members to seven amidst a flurry of comings and goings.

Those moves were primarily focused on Teekay Corp, though Teekay Tankers saw the departure of William Lawes, who sat on the tanker owner's board for 11 years.
