A tanker owned by John Fredriksen’s Frontline has rescued a lone yachtsman who had run into trouble off the Nova Scotia Peninsular.

Frontline’s 110,000-dwt Front Leopard (built 2016) raced to help a small craft which had issued a distress call approximately 430 miles SE off Cape Sable, according to a statement released on Tuesday.

With weather conditions deteriorating, the tanker crew spotted red distress flares and were able to make radio contact with the yacht Ardante.

The yachtsman was transferred to the tanker and was found to be unharmed.

Captain Sergey Chekalin, master of the Front Leopard, said in a statement circulated by manager Sea Team he and his crew had undertaken their duty as mariners.

“I’m extremely proud of my crew who all have worked very hard to save this unfortunate yachtsman,” he said.

The incident occurred on 23 May and the tanker continued its voyage later the same day.

Frontline is best known for its position in the VLCC and suezmax markets but also had a modern fleet of more than 20 LR2s.
