Arne Fredly’s Hunter Group has hired Swedbank corporate finance executive Lars M Brynildsrud as its new chief financial officer.

Brynildsrud will work alongside chief executive Erik Frydendal who had previously held both positions.

Hunter has made its move as it gears up for delivery of its first VLCC newbuildings from DSME, the only shipping assets in its portfolio.

Brynildsrud adds additional finance and capital markets know-how to the Hunter brand having previously worked for Pareto Securities in Oslo and New York.

Frydendal and Brynildsrud will work alongside shipping veteran Sujoy Seal.

The former Tranpetrol, BW Group and Aurora Wilhelmsen man is the company's chief operating officer.

While Hunter is new to shipping, it is already well stocked with finance experience.

Frydendal was previously a partner in Frydendal and also worked for Swedbank/First Securities, Fondsfinans, Nordea Securities and Paine Webber.

Fredly, the Hunter director who engineered its move into shipping, was previously a partner and major shareholder at ABG Sundal Collier. Today he is also a significant shareholder in Pareto Bank.

Hunter presently has seven VLCC newbuildings on order having sold one of the ships to SK Shipping for $98m, the highest price paid for a resale in the past five years.

As TradeWinds has reported, doubt surrounds the sale of a second of the tankers after SK Shipping saw negotiations with Koch over a charter fall through.
