International Seaways is mulling how to dispose of its oldest VLCC, market sources say.

Rumours in the market last week flagged up the 309,000-dwt tanker Seaways Raphael (built 2000) as a demolition candidate.

TradeWinds understands Seaways has marketed the vessel for sale but has yet to receive any firm offers.

Sources say the tanker could go for scrap given the present market and firm demolition prices.

However, Seaways is willing to entertain offers from owners looking to trade the tanker, they add.

Seaways presently has 10 VLCCs in its fleet and will add a further six should it complete a $434m swoop for modern ships in the hands of Gener8 Maritime.

Lois Zabrocky-led Seaways moved for the Gener8 tankers in a deal related to the seller’s pending takeover by Euronav.

Seaways, which has said it will not need to issue equity to see through the deal, is seeking to take on existing debt of the sextet.
