Danish product tanker owner Torm has extended fleet renewal efforts with the sale of a veteran vessel at a time it is taking delivery of a number of newbuildings and second-hand purchases.
Copenhagen-listed Torm has sold the 47,000-dwt Torm San Jacinto (built 2002), multiple shipowners reported.
Some suggested a price of $8m has been secured for the Onomichi Dockyard-constructed vessel, but a potential buyer has yet to be revealed.
Torm has been actively renewing its fleet during the latest downturn in the product tanker market and is a vocal supporter of consolidation.
It invested in a number of resales in 2017 to add to its own newbuildings on order at Guangzhou Shipyard International.
In June it purchased four more tankers in an $83m deal for vessels managed by Claus-Peter Offen.
In the first quarter this year, it sold the 47,000-dwt Torm Amazon (built 2002) and the Torm Cecilie (built 2001).
The first of the vessels is now listed as the Kestrel in the fleet of Indian owner Seven Islands Shipping and the second is now trading as the Gulf Aetos at Gulf Navigation.
In June, it also announced the sale of the 45,000-dwt Torm Gunhild (built in 1999).
Torm, which is investing in scrubbers for a slice of its fleet, has 70 ships on the water.
It has seven newbuildings on order and will soon take delivery of the four MRs bought this summer.
