The vessels are part of a series of 50,200-dwt tankers under construction by Hyundai Vinashin at its Nha Trang yard in Vietnam.

Two of the tankers have been fixed at $16,650 a day with the remaining vessel earning $16,850 a day.

The charterer has not been identified by d’Amico apart from the Italian quoted owner saying it was “one of the most important oil majors.”

The MR vessels are among those operated by d’Amico's Irish subsidiary d’Amico Tankers.

The newbuildings, hulls S410, S411 and S424, are due to be delivered in the final quarter of this year and the first and final quarters of 2016.

d’Amico describes the vessels at the latest generation eco-design ships and claimed they are the most advanced and efficient in terms of speed and bunker consumption.

The deals are viewed in an extremely positive light by d’Amico which hopes they will consolidate an already strong long term relationship with an important charterer.

With the latest agreements there is now time charter coverage on 12 of a total of 16 d’Amico newbuildings. Eight have so far been delivered.

All the charters are with oil majors or leading refiners.
