Dutch shipowner Tune Chemical Tankers (TCT) is renewing its fleet with an order for up to four methanol-powered product tankers.

It has picked Tersan Shipyard in Turkey to build two firm “state of the art” 16,000-dwt carriers, with two options attached.

Delivery will be in 2025, but no price has been revealed.

The stainless steel tankers will carry oil products and chemicals.

“Their eco-friendly design aligns perfectly with our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and protecting our oceans,” the owner said.

TCT said the yard is known for its exceptional craftsmanship.

“This collaboration symbolises our shared vision of innovation, efficiency and environmental responsibility within the maritime industry,” it added.

The shipowner is promising more updates as it focuses on expanding its fleet with eco-friendly and sustainable vessels: “We have even more exciting news on the horizon, so be prepared to join us on this remarkable journey of innovation and environmental stewardship in the maritime industry.”

TCT is based in Rotterdam and began operations in 2011 with five tankers.

It operates ships from 10,700 dwt up to MR2s.

New ships needed

It says it insists on working with relatively new vessels.

Most chemical tankers retire at around the age of 15, it argues.

The company is listed with seven ships under its ownership currently, all pushing that age limit.

There are six tankers of 10,700 dwt and one of 12,100 dwt, all built in 2008 and 2009 at Tersan Shipyard.
