SCI’s 316,200-dwt Desh Viraat and Desh Ujaala (both built 2005) have been hired by IOC on two-year contracts, multiple brokers say.
A rate of $41,600 per day is said to have been secured on each of the ships.
This compares with the $45,658 per day available in the spot market on Friday when adjusted for slow steaming, according to Howe Robinson Partners.
Clarksons Platou places the one-year rate for a VLCC at $52,000 per day.
US investment bank Stifel says VLCCs have earned an average of $54,670 per day during 2015.
SCI has five VLCCs to its name in a fleet of 34 tankers, VesselsValue.com says.
Its VLCCs are priced at $332.51m by the valuation service.
Attempts to reach SCI for comment were unsuccessful at the time of writing on Monday.
