United Arab Emirates shipowner CPG Bunkering has bought a new tanker to expand operations in Mozambique.
The company said it has signed a deal with Maputo Port Development Co to extend its partnership in ship fuel supply at the terminal.
CPG has sent its 3,800-dwt CPG Alma (built 2005) to Maputo to join the 3,800-dwt sister ship CPG Alix (built 2009).
VesselsValue rates the CPG Alma as worth $5.4m, up from $3.7m two years ago.
The former OW Baltic was acquired from Alba Tankers in Sweden for an undisclosed sum.
As part of the renewal of its bunkering agreement with Maputo Port, CPG said it had agreed to deploy an additional vessel.
“With two bunker barges operating at the port of Maputo, the expanded service will be able to cater for reliable at-berth supplies during cargo operations and an increasing volume of bunker-only calls at anchorage,” the company added.
The contract, signed on 26 September, covers all grades of marine fuels, lubricants and ship-to-ship transfer services.
“Furthermore, during the extension period, CPG Bunkering has agreed to evaluate the possible supply of alternative bunker fuels (biofuels, LNG, methanol and ammonia) at the port of Maputo,” CPG added.
Aside from its Mozambique tonnage, CPG has two other bunker tankers built in 2002 and 2009.
CPG has acquired its fleet in the last four years from Alba, Denmark’s tanker and bunker group Monjasa and KZN Bunkers of South Africa.
