CargoMetrics founder Scott Borgerson has reportedly left his wife, Ghislaine Maxwell, following her conviction on sex abuse charges.

According to several media outlets, 46-year-old Borgerson told Maxwell their relationship was over by phone as she sat in solitary confinement, informing her he had "moved on".

"There was a dramatic phone call between them, while she was in jail in solitary confinement. It became confrontational," a friend of Maxwell's reportedly told the Daily Mail over the weekend.

"Scott told her he had moved on and was seeing someone else."

Maxwell was found guilty on five of six counts 29 December following five days of deliberation by jurors and likely will spend several years in prison.

Prosecutors alleged that she helped lure teenage girls to have sex with late financier Jeffrey Epstein, who died by suicide after he was arrested.

Some media have reported that Borgerson and Maxwell were "secretly" married in 2016, while others have described it as a "close relationship".

Borgerson founded data platform CargoMetrics in 2010, using automatic identification data to track trade flows.

His stint as a tech entrepreneur followed a career in the US Coast Guard and stints in both the public sector and at think tanks.

The executive was thrust into the tabloid headlines over his relationship with Maxwell after allegations against her emerged.

In October 2020, Borgerson resigned as chief executive and director at CargoMetrics, with the company telling TradeWinds he sought to avoid becoming a "distraction".

In mid-December, the New York Post reportedly Borgerson was seen with another woman in the Massachusetts town where he lives.

On Saturday, the Daily Mail reported the split with Maxwell, with the source saying their marriage was over before the trial even started.
