Norway's Kongsberg Digital has secured two more data and digitalisation deals with domestic shipowner Island Offshore and oil major Shell.

The company said it has signed a fleet agreement to kit out Island's 26 offshore vessels with its Vessel Insight solution to collect information aimed at improving efficiency.

Kongsberg said the platform will allow the shipowner to use advanced decision support tools and benchmark its ships by comparing operational data to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, as well as automate reporting processes.

"We look forward to working closely with Island Offshore to deliver and further develop solutions that can help give them a competitive advantage in the market, as well as help them achieve their goals for safety, efficiency and sustainability," said Andreas Jagtoyen, executive vice president of Digital Ocean at Kongsberg Digital.

Four vessels in the fleet are already connected and work is progressing on the rest of the fleet.

"By collecting all data on one common platform, we get a correct and efficient starting point to analyse our operations and compare all our vessels in the fleet," said Island's technical manager Trond Hauge.

Shell signs up

Kongsberg has also announced a strategic partnership agreement with Shell to digitally transform the group's wells unit.

The company said it already has a strong relationship with the oil company in energy production.

Shell has used Kongsberg's real-time data products for its wells for several years.

Work will now start on an internet of things, or IOT, for the wells to improve safety and decision-making.

The agreement will align initiatives across the overall life cycle for well deliveries, through planning, execution and reporting.

"This will position both companies at the forefront of drilling and wells' digital journey," said Jon Crane, vice president of Wells Digital at Shell.
