Kongsberg Digital has appointed Shane McArdle as the company's new chief executive to replace Hege Skryseth who joined Norwegian oil group Equinor last week.
McArdle was previously head of digital energy at the software and data systems subsidiary of Norwegian maritime, oil and gas and aerospace engineering group Kongsberg.
The company said it carried out a wide and thorough recruitment process, including many national and international candidates.
“After a thorough assessment, we are happy to have found the best candidate in our own ranks to take the reins in an extremely exciting time,” said Thomas Borgen, chairman of Kongsberg Digital.
McArdle has extensive experience in the energy sector and has delivered strong results in a demanding market, the company added.
Kongsberg Digital has developed a data infrastructure service Vessel Insight and Vessel Performance applications that can help automate and decarbonise ships.
In June this year, Konsberg Digital sealed a five-year fleet digitalisation deal with Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) that encompasses nearly 500 container vessels operated by the Swiss owner.
Late last year it teamed up with class society American Bureau of Shipping to pool their digital resources in upgrading vessel performance monitoring and analytics services.
