Its latest batch of 22 stock ships from its Asian yards were loaded on to a BigLift heavy-lifter for hand-over in Europe, its biggest transport of newbuildings so far.

The 18,100-dwt Happy Star (built 2014) started to take on its cargo of tugs, pontoons and crew boats in Shanghai, adding ships in other ports in Vietnam and Singapore before heading to Rotterdam.

It arrived last month and some of the units have already been sold, including two fast crew boats for North Sea offshore wind parks.

Damen said: “The transport is a welcome opportunity to accommodate the requirements of clients on the west coasts of Africa and Europe looking for smaller tugs and pontoons.

“By having a global spread of strategic stock available, Damen always ensures short delivery times of popular vessels.”

Rimmert Berlijn, Damen’s coordinator for heavy lift, said: “We took a lot of time to carefully consider what vessel types we would transport, and in what numbers, in order to best serve the requirements of a wide range of clients.”
