The scam message is being sent from post@redfunnel.co.uk, using all Red Funnel's branding.

It is titled “Red Funnel Ferries Confirmation 5838547”.

But it has nothing to do with the company.

A programme contained in an attached Microsoft Word document will try to steal passwords and credit card details if opened.

Red Funnel told the On The Wight website: "The company can confirm that these emails were not sent by Red Funnel and an advisory has been issued to anyone in receipt of them not to open the MS Word attachment as it could contain a self-propagating virus.

"There is no indication that Red Funnel’s security systems have been compromised and specialists have been appointed to identify the source. In the meantime, Red Funnel would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused”.
