China’s Cosco Shipping Lines is fitting exhaust gas cleaning systems to 23 of its boxships.
The owner will use scrubbers on five vessels of 19,000 teu, eight 14,000-teu units and 10 4,250-teu ships.
Kits for the last 10 are being supplied by Finland’s Valmet.
The work will take place this year, Valmet said.
It added that the project is being executed in cooperation with Health Lead Development, and contracts were signed in the fourth quarter of 2018.
It is not disclosing the value of the deal.
Valmet has four production units, three service centres and 1,700 employees in China.
“The deliveries are good examples of Valmet’s capability to create a tailor-made concept to customer,” senior sales manager Shijie Wang said.
“Thanks to our solution, the scrubber systems can be installed to a ... container vessel without losing any cargo capacity.”
The Valmet scrubbers will be open-loop for the main engine and generator engines.
Cosco Shipping has 376 boxships.
