Diana Containerships has secured employment for a boxship that was idle for nearly eight months.
Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) has fixed the 6,541-teu Pucon (built 2006) for 13 months starting on 27 April.
Pucon will earn $10,750 per day and will become the most highly paid ship in Diana’s fleet.
But Hapag-Lloyd was paying $17,000 for the vessel until May 2016 before Diana sent it to Malaysia for lay-up.
Prior to the Hapag charter, Pucon was earning $27,900 per day in a much better market.
This is the second vessel that Diana has chartered to OOCL in March.
The Hong Kong-based owner hired the 5,576-teu Great (built 2004) 10 days ago for a daily rate of $7,300.
Nasdaq-listed Diana posted a net deficit of $149m in 2016, against $17.5m in 2015.
