Evergreen says CMA CGM takeover talk just "rumours"

Taiwanese container line Evergreen Marine Corp (EMC) has denied "rumours" that French rival CMA CGM is to take it over.

The company was responding to what it called speculation in the Commercial Times about a deal.

"With reference to recent media speculation over the possible purchase of EMC, such reports were no more than rumours, which have no grounds in fact," it said.

"The content mentioned in the report is nothing more than speculation."

CMA CGM made an approach to shareholders of Hapag-Lloyd earlier this year about a takeover, but was turned down.
