Global Ship Lease has prolonged a fixture for one of its post-panamax boxships by another three years.

The London-based company has agreed to continue chartering the 9,115-teu UASC Al Khor (built 2015) through a new contract starting in June and ending in the second quarter of 2022.

The deal is expected to make about $28m for the Ian Webber-led company, which did not indicate the length of the current charter.

“We are pleased to announce another longer-term charter of one of our modern, high-specification, eco, wide-beam containerships acquired through our recent strategic combination with Poseidon Containers," chief executive Webber said.

"This charter extension further improves our long-term cashflow visibility and is indicative of our expanded relationship with charterers.”

Global Ship Lease owns 38 boxships ranging from 2,207 to 11,040 teu.
