A Hapag-Lloyd container vessel has damaged a gantry crane in Vietnam after briefly grounding.
The 8,600-teu Nagoya Express (built 2010) hit the structure in a storm at Hai Phong port, VNExpress reported.
The ship was leaving Hai Phong International Container Terminal on 7 June when the accident happened, according to Vu Tu Nam, a port official.
The bow hit the $5m QC 15 crane, causing it to buckle. The port is now using pillars to support it.
Tran Anh, the harbour pilot who was navigating the vessel, has been suspended after a probe began.
Hapag-Lloyd told TradeWinds that Nagoya Express touched ground as it left the port.
It was able to refloat, but "when returning to berth under pilot advice, touched the gantry crane", it added.
"Exact cause is currently investigated."
