The last of the damaged containers onboard Hapag-Lloyd’s fire-hit containership Yantian Express have finally been offloaded.

“We are pleased to report that all containers in the fire impacted areas in way of cargo holds 1 and 2 on and under deck have been discharged from the vessel,” Ocean Network Express (ONE) said in an update to clients.

“All customers whose containers have been discharged and are ready for on-carriage have already been informed, and we are currently working on a solution to transship those containers, which cannot be reloaded back on the vessel.”

ONE said that presently, the plan is for the balance of the undamaged cargo to remain on board the Yantian Express, which will depart Freeport once needed repairs are finalized.

Latest AIS data currently shows the vessel alongside at the Hutchison Ports-owned FreePort Container Terminal.

However, the final port of call for the vessel is still to be nominated and ONE said it will advise those effected on this aspect as soon as feasible.

The 7,150-teu containership (built 2002) suffered a blaze on 3 January off Canada, but was eventually able to berth in Freeport on 4 February.

A total of 202 containers were declared a total loss, according to general average and salvage adjusters Richards Hogg Lindley.

It also identified an additional 460 containers that were stored in the affected area that required inspection.
