A containership owned by Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) is adrift in Greek waters and tugs are now being deployed on scene.

TradeWinds is told the 2,058-teu MSC Mirella (built 1989) lost propulsion off the island of Milos due to an engine failure.

The boxship is believed to be laden.

Four tugs are on their way to assist the adrift ship. Vernicos Tugs & Salvage is providing two of them.

Data from vessel tracking websites confirm the vessel is sailing off Milos, an island in south western Aegean.

Another ship owned by MSC was hit by fire off Sri Lanka earlier this month.
