The UAE has said a shipping embargo on Qatar remains after a port circular seemed to suggest an easing of the ban this week.

The country said the information was “misinterpreted” and a clarification will be issued to ports, Bloomberg reported.

Abu Dhabi Ports had issued a directive that removed any mention of banning cargo shipments to Qatar.

But the Federal Transport Authority said the embargo on Qatar stands and only it has jurisdiction over ports, according to a statement cited by state-run WAM news agency.

Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt severed diplomatic and trade links with Qatar in 2017, accusing it of supporting terrorism, which it denies.
