Dutch owner Visser Shipping has signed up to retrofit hybrid scrubbers to part of its fleet of boxships.

Compatriot Value Maritime said it will supply the 9MW exhaust gas cleaners to three vessels, with an option for a fourth.

Visser, owned by Aleida and Douwe Visser, has five modern vessels, according to Value.

The Visser website lists four owned feeder units.

“The decision to install the new type of scrubbers from Value Maritime fits well into our philosophy. It ensures cost efficiency in the long term for our clients and also helps conserve the environment,” Visser said

“We have been investigating scrubbers from their beginning and found the retrofit to be complex and to expensive. With the scrubbers from Value Maritime installation is more simple and costs are more in line with the size of our ships."

Value has developed a small prefabricated, pre-installed, “plug and play” scrubber in a 20-foot transportable casing.

The scrubbers are set to be installed on Visser Shipping’s vessels between October and December.
