Oslo-based bulker operator and Belships subsidiary Lighthouse Navigation has been renamed Norwegian Bulk Carriers, following a splitting up of the business earlier this year.

Supramax and ultramax owner Belships sold its shares in Lighthouse’s Asia-based activities in late April to the company’s management, who will continue to run the platform under the Lighthouse Navigation Pte name.

But this left room for confusion with the Lighthouse entity in Oslo, which has been renamed and will continue to be a subsidiary of Belships.

“The commercial management of the Belships fleet will continue to be handled in the same manner as today, in co-operation between the Lighthouse Navigation Pte Ltd office in Bangkok and Norwegian Bulk Carriers AS in Oslo,” the renamed company said in a LinkedIn update on Monday.

Norwegian Bulk Carriers will retain the same office address, company registration number, VAT number and bank account as it has had since 2020, when it was established in Oslo.

Norwegian Bulk Carriers is led by managing director Jan Christian Tungland and has 13 staff in total.

It provides commercial management for the Belships fleet and for supramaxes owned by Fredriksen-backed leasing platform SFL.

Norwegian Bulk Carriers typically operates 60 to 70 vessels on long and short-term period charters, single voyages and commercial management, according to its website.

Belships is set to receive $14m in return for its 50.1% stake in Singapore-based Lighthouse Navigation Pte, which handles business from its offices in Bangkok and Melbourne.

The stake was bought by the Singapore-based company’s management staff, who already owned 49.9%.

Lighthouse has 20 employees in Bangkok, eight in Singapore and three in Melbourne.

The Bangkok office was co-founded in 2009 by Anders Soedergren and Helge Bruns, who are now directors of the outfit, and Frank Teeuwen, who is a consultant.
